There’s no shortage of wineries in the Texas Hill Country and wine enthusiasts will be extremely pleased with the varietals and vintages produced in our region. From fresh, crisp white wines to bold red wines and everything in-between, Texas has a lot to brag about when it comes to wine production and you must schedule some time to visit at least one during your stay.

Just over half an hour from us is Kerrville Hills Winery where you can tour the winery, enjoy samples in the tasting room, or even catch live music and some food with an on-site event on the first and third Saturday of the month. The 30-minute winery tour is $4 and offered at 1 p.m on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Tasting fees start at $8 for four samples, $12 for six, or you can purchase wines by the glass.
Located in Fredericksburg, Grape Creek Vineyards is a fun Tuscan-style winery that also offers tours of its vineyard. In the tasting room, sample six wines of your choice for $12 on weekdays and $15 on Saturdays. The taste and tour package is only $30 and includes a tram ride through the vineyards and a walk-through in the production complex. Complement the Italian theme of the winery by having lunch or a snack at the Trattoria, their outdoor patio café. The winery is open Monday – Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The winery is on the Highway 290 wine trail.
Bending Branch Winery, near Comfort, TX produces 16 varietals on 20 acres of vines. Tours are available by appointment and you can do either the basic tour for $25 or the extended for $40. Tasting room hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. There is a second tasting room in historic downtown Comfort with extended hours Thursday through Saturday.

Becker Vineyards is one of the older wineries in the Hill Country and is the third largest winery in Texas and located right along the wine trail on Highway 290. The winery is open seven days a week except for major holidays and tours are available if there’s enough staff on hand. Hours are Monday – Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday – Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday noon to 6 p.m. The tasting fee is $15 for six pours and you get a souvenir glass.
Hilmy Cellars is a delightful stop for its wine production and to see a working farm. On the property, you’ll see dogs, cats, guinea and pea fowl, chickens, goats, and sheep! Tasting fees are $12 with wines ranging from a chenin blanc to zinfandel and touriga nacional blend. The tasting room is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Reservations are required for groups of six or more.
Lewis Wines, near Johnson City on Highway 290, specializes in Spanish and Portuguese wines and focuses on sustainable farming of their vineyard. Tastings are offered seven days a week by appointment and cost $15 which can be refunded with the purchase of two bottles. Pedernales Cellars is known for its tempranillo and viognier and is operated by a sixth generation Texas family. Just 15 minutes from Fredericksburg off of the 290 Wine Trail, the winery is open daily with the exception of major holidays. You can visit the tasting room from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Sample their award-winning wines for $15 and take home a souvenir tasting glass. The winery also offers private tours by appointment.
Torre di Pietra is a family-owned and operated winery near Fredericksburg on Highway 290. Open daily (excluding holidays), this winery offers complimentary 30-minute tours on Saturday at noon, 1, 2, and 3 p.m. The tasting fee is $15 but includes six samples a souvenir glass! The winery is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday – Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Woodrose Winery, on Highway 290, is 13 miles east of Fredericksburg and produces whites, reds, rosés, and ports. The tasting fee is $10 and for a souvenir glass add $2. The tasting room has a relaxed vibe and invites you to sit down and relax at a table instead of the traditional standing at the bar approach. You’ll be presented with menus to make your tasting choices. Visit the winery from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday or from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
It’s important to have a designated driver for a safe tour of our nearby wineries but if everyone in your party wishes to partake in the wine tasting, try one of these local tour companies to provide safe transportation between each winery visit.

You may also arrange private tours, ranging from two to six people, for $59 per hour for tours Sunday – Friday. Or parties up to 14 can book a private tour seven days a week for $395.
The shuttle service starts every Saturday at 10 a.m. and runs until 6 p.m. and starts Sunday at 11 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. The shuttle picks up passengers across the street from the Fredericksburg Visitor Center.
